Sangrur, April 24

There is panic in the Dirba area after locals claimed that they had seen a leopard on Thursday evening. Though a team led by the Divisional Forest Officer ruled this out, residents demanded quick action to catch the animal.

"I saw a leopard sitting over a wall. When I called neighbours, it disappeared. Since then, there has been a panic in the area," said Kulwinder Singh, a resident of the Patran road in Dirba.

SHO Sukhdeep Singh along with a police team reached the spot and called the DFO. They also analysed the CCTV footage, but it was not clear. Not taking chances, officials have placed a cage to catch the animal.

"Though since last night, there has been no incident, the authorities should catch the animal as there is a panic in the area," said Nirmal Singh, another resident.

DFO Vidhya Sagari said from the CCTV footage it had become clear that the animal was not a leopard. mdash; TNS
