Faridkot: Facing an acute shortage of gunny bags, the Punjab State Civil Supplies Corporation (PUNSUP) has approached the state School Education Department to purchase old jute bags.

In view of the fact that government and government-aided schools in the state get the bags containing rice and wheat under the Mid-Day Meal Scheme for over 20 lakh students, the PUNSUP approached the department to find a solution to the bag crisis.

In a letter to all DEOs on Thursday, project director of the scheme Prabhcharan Singh has asked all schools to hand over the empty bags to the PUNSUP at the rate of Rs25 per bag.

"Not only will this help in solving the problem of shortage of bags, but it will also help schools earn extra money," said Singh.
