SGPC seeks probe into Pak mishap

Negligence to blame

  • The cause of the accident will be revealed after the investigations, yet the preliminary reports suggested negligence on the part of van driver, who tried to hurriedly cross the railway crossing by taking a short-cut

At least 21 Sikhs were killed on the spot when their van collided with the Karachi-Lahore Shah Hussain Express, reportedly at an unmanned crossing, near Gurdwara Sacha Sauda at Farooqabad, Sheikhupura, in Pakistan Punjab this afternoon.

The cause of the accident will be revealed after the investigations, yet the preliminary reports suggested negligence on part of the van driver, who tried to hurriedly cross the railway crossing by taking a short-cut.

Paying homage to the departed souls, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal and senior vice-president Rajinder Singh Mehta demanded a thorough inquiry into the incident. The accident had occurred at an unmanned crossing. The Pakistan authorities should probe it and take stern action against those found guilty, they added.
