Morinda, August 28

Residents of Sarhana village today alleged that the police had been favouring two drug addicts who had tried to attack sarpanch Simaranjeet Singh. Holding a protest, they alleged that the police personnel had failed to act against drug peddlers in the area.

Simarjeet said on Thursday, Lakhwinder Singh, alias Lakhi, a resident of Sarhana village, and Gurpreet Singh Happy of Samana village, entered his house with sharp-edged weapons. The sarpanch said he, along with his family members, overpowered them and handed them over to the police.

The duo confessed that they were under the influence of drugs, which they had bought from a peddler in Morinda. Deputy Superintendent of Police SS Virk said the accused had been sent to jail and a case under Section 107 and 151 of the CrPC had been filed against them. — TNS
