Bathinda, August 18

An undertrial, Rajvir Singh of Gidderbaha, who was tested Covid-positive and was lodged at the isolation centre at Red Cross building, near the Civil Hospital here, today fled after breaking the window of a toilet. The police have registered a case against the accused.

DSP Gurjit Singh Romana said the accused had been arrested by the GRP in a theft case. “Special teams are conducting raids at his possible hideouts to nab him,” he said.

Earlier on August 10, eight patients had run away from an isolation centre here. The police have failed to trace them till date. They instead claim that those persons were no longer infected as their second tests were taken on August 11 and their reports had turned negative.

“We are trying to locate them for violating the Disaster Management Act and stepping out of the isolation ward without authorisation,” said a police official. — TNS
