Chandigarh: Following up with the last week's reshuffle of senior cops, the Punjab Police on Friday transferred 18, officers mostly of the rank of Superintendent of Police, to various posts left vacant due to the last reshuffle of 33 officers. Prominent among them is former SSP, Bathinda, Nanak Singh, who has been posted as AIG-Intelligence, Punjab, against a vacant post. However, no officer of this rank from Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Pathankot, districts where liquor tragedy took place, has been posted out. tns

Harcharan Bains appointed principal adviser to SAD chief

Chandigarh: Author and political ideologue, Harcharan Bains, has been appointed principal adviser to SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Bains has also been made a permanent invitee to all the top decision making bodies of the party, including the core committee, said Sukhbir on Friday.

Bains said his first task would be "to expose a deep-rooted conspiracy by anti-Sikh forces to sow seeds of suspicion in the minds of Sikhs". TNS

Former Congress MLA's 2 sons, grandson booked

Muktsar: The police have booked two sons and a grandson of former Congress MLA Raghubir Pardhan for allegedly thrashing a resident of Sammewali village on Thursday. The complainant, Harjeet Singh, alleged that he along with his family had come to his in-laws' house at Sheikh village on Thursday on the occasion of Rakhi. He said while crossing Gidderbaha, both sons of the former MLA, Dinesh Garg, Deepak Garg and Dinesh's son, thrashed him over traffic jam. A case under Sections 355, 341, 323, 148 and 149 of the IPC has been registered. TNS
