New Delhi, August 25
The Congress today demanded compensation for the projected Rs 6 lakh crore loss suffered by states on account of the economic strain caused by the pandemic.
Addressing a video-conference, Finance Minister Manpreet Badal said the Centre should pay to states GST compensation of 14 per cent as mandated by the GST Compensation Act.
"At a time when the states were suffering losses in revenue due to Covid, the Centre has informed the parliamentary standing committee on finance that it doesn't have the funds to pay the GST compensation to the states. This amounts to a sovereign default," he said.
