Abohar, August 20

The Khuyiansarwer police have registered a case against Darshan Singh and his wife Bimla Rani of Gidderanwali village for allegedly damaging a ‘saroop’ of the Guru Granth Sahib. Davinder Singh, chief of local Gurdwara Sangatsar, has stated in his complaint that the couple also made a video of the torn pages.

Preliminary probe indicated that the couple was wanted by the police in connection with an liquor smuggling case and to build pressure, they allegedly indulged in sacrilege. The police had recently conducted raids in the village to nab bootleggers and smugglers but had to return empty handed as they were assaulted by miscreants. A case had been registered after the assault too — OC
