Chandigarh, September 24
The Punjab Government has issued instructions to not deny admission to students in government schools under any situation. So far this year, the enrollment in government schools has increased by 15.61 per cent (3,44,986 students) and this is the highest increase in a single year till date.
A spokesperson for the Punjab School Education Department said some complaints had been received from parents that their children had been denied admission on the pretext of high enrollment and lack of infrastructure. In this context, Krishan Kumar, Secretary, School Education, directed all District Education Officers (DEOs- secondary and elementary) of the state to give admission to aspirants in government schools in any case. He also directed them to make appropriate arrangements at the local level in case of lack of infrastructure. Schools, where the strength of students is very high, have also been asked to send proposals to start double shifts. — TNS
