Moga, September 18

Coming down heavily on the working of the Moga police, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted bail to a Ferozepur resident ‘framed’ in a case of heroin smuggling last year.

The suspect had been languishing in jail for the past one year and the trial in his case was yet to start even months after filing of the chargesheet.

Gajjan Singh, a resident of Chuge Nehanga village, was picked up by policemen in plain clothes from Ferozepur on July 25, 2019, and was shown arrested from Dagru village of Moga district the same day at 7.35 pm along with Pippal Singh, a resident of Hamad Chak village of Ferozepur district. The police claimed to have recovered 265 gm and 15 gm of heroin from them, respectively.

An FIR was registered under Sections 21 and 25 of the NDPS Act, 1985 (Section 29 added later), at the Sadar police station in Moga. Abhilaksh Gaind, the counsel for Gajjan, argued before the HC that his client was falsely implicated and taken into custody illegally. — TNS
