Members of the TET-Pass unemployed ETT and BEd Teachers' Union today staged a protest at Guru Gobind Singh College, Sanghera, during a job fair, terming the 'Ghar Ghar Rozgar' scheme of the state government as a "farce".

The union members raised slogans against the state government for not recruiting them in the Punjab Education Department despite their repeated requests. "Our members protested under the leadership of Barnala district president Jagjit Singh Jaggi. The job fairs are of no help to the unemployed," said Sukhminder Dhilwan, president of the union.

Dhilwan alleged that the police pushed the union members out of the college when they tried to go inside to attend the fair. "Our members went there to lodge their protest against the failure of the Punjab Government to provide jobs to the unemployed," said Dhilwan.

Rupinderpal Singh, SHO, Barnala, said he was not aware of any such incident.

As per the details shared by the Barnala administration, 10 counters were set up and around 2,000 unemployed youngsters had got themselves registered. As many as 30 MNCs participated in the job fair.

"Nobody from the BEd-pass union met me, and MNCs have selected around 1,500 youngsters for various jobs. We have been abiding by the guidelines issued to prevent the spread of Covid-19," said Tej Partap Singh Phoolka, DC, Barnala.
