Probe underway

We are working on certain clues and hope to nab the accused soon. In all, 13 persons were involved in the crime.

The gangsters have their origins in Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan. Interestingly, the police nabbed the accused on the same day when Raina visited his injured aunt Asha Rani and cousin Apan Kumar at the hospital where they are recuperating. Later, he also paid a visit to the family's ancestral house in Thariyal village falling in the jurisdiction of the Shahpur Kandi police station.

Raina was accompanied by his mother and sister. He praised the police for "going about its task in an efficient manner' and also spoke highly of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for "forming a special investigation team (SIT) to crack the case".

Pathankot SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said the SIT was on the lookout for 10 more members of the gang. "Before committing a crime, the members wear black clothes which is why they are identified by the nomenclature of 'kale kachchewale' gang. They split into three or four sub-groups to avoid the police. They conduct a recce of the intended target for several days and gather information about the number of family members residing in the house and their financial condition," he added. The SSP said the arrested accused had been identified as Sarwan Kumar, Shahrukh Khan and Mohabbat, who were picked up from the Defence road late last night.

The SSP said two wooden sticks, two gold rings, a gold chain and Rs 1,530 in cash had been recovered from the accused.
