Chandigarh, September 16
Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday appealed to farmers not to block traffic in the state over farm Bills even as he assured them that no case would be registered against them for violating Section 144 of the CrPC that prohibits public gathering as they were "fighting for their lives".
"
State govt with them
Farmers are protesting as the Bills will ruin them. My government is with them. The Bills will spell doom for the state, in fact the whole nation.
"
The FIRs already registered against the farmers for protesting in violation of Section 144 would be withdrawn, said the Chief Minister, talking to mediapersons outside Governor's House after submitting a memorandum against the "anti-farmer" Bills on behalf of the Punjab Congress. "The farmers are protesting as the ordinances will ruin them and their families," he said in response to a question.
His government was with the farmers, the Chief Minister asserted, adding that the Centre's legislations would harm Punjab and its agriculture. The Bills would pave the way for ending the MSP regime, which would spell doom for the state and the whole nation, he added.
Capt Amarinder urged the farmers to take their protests to Delhi, on the doorstep of the Union Government.
