Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu tested positive for Covid today. He had attended the rally in Sangrur on Monday where Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were also present.

Govt Teachers to be tested

Chandigarh: Punjab has ordered mass Covid testing of govt teachers ahead of move to open schools after October 15. An order issued by health officials of Ropar said samples of 50 teachers would be collected every day for testing at the district hospital. TNS

There is anxiety among senior officials and politicians as he came in contact with many people during the rally. "We will undertake contact-tracing. Since the minister used double mask, there is no need to worry as he did not remove both masks. Many people attended the rally, so I request all that if anyone has any symptoms, he should immediately consult a doctor," said Dr Raj Kumar, Civil Surgeon, Sangrur.

Others who attended the rally were PPCC president Sunil Jakhar, former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Cabinet ministers Vijay Inder Singla and Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, AICC general secretary and in charge of Punjab affairs Harish Rawat, Haryana Congress leader Deepender Hooda and other senior leaders from the area.

"I request all to wear masks as Covid has not ended yet. Those who don't have a mask can contact the Health Department team, which will give them one," Sidhu had said from the stage.

"We will follow all Health Department guidelines to prevent further spread of the virus," said DC Ramvir.

With 888 fresh cases and 38 deaths reported today, the state count of cases has reached 1,20,016. The state reported 38 casualties in the past 24 hours.
