Farmers are doing everything possible, including seeking divine intervention, to put pressure on the Centre to repeal the contentious agriculture laws. Besides protesting relentlessly, they are paying obeisance at various religious places to invoke the Almighty so that they can win the decisive battle against the Central laws.

Despite being over-occupied in agricultural chores, including the harvest of paddy, and sit-ins in their respective areas, several farmers are visiting the Naina Devi shrine in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh and Gurdwara Anandpur Sahib and praying for withdrawal of the farms laws and protection of their land and crops.

"Now, when the Union Government seems reluctant to review the Acts despite the widespread opposition by farmer unions and political parties, maybe our prayers before Naina Devi will work and trigger a change of heart," said Niranjan Singh, a farmer from Nurpur village.

Karnail Singh of Majri village said elderly people from his village and surrounding localities had left for Gurdwara Anandpur Sahib and other religious places to offer prayers for getting the farm Acts rolled back.

"Though usually we visit religious places and shrines after the harvest, we chose to offer prayers early so that we could get the blessings of the Almighty in our fight to save the farming community," said Singh. Pandit Sachin Sharma, a priest at the Naina Devi shrine, acknowledged that there had been a sudden increase in the visits by elderly persons and youth from agrarian families of the state.
