Cong MP faces ire

  • Congress MP from Faridkot Mohd Sadiq on Sunday faced the ire of protesting farmers in Benra village of Sangrur. Farmers gheraoed his vehicle for 45 minutes.

Sampla, while expressing sympathy with Balwinder's family, said the BJP would support the family in the future as well. Jagdish Kaur, wife of Balwinder Singh, complained that the family had not been provided any security as promised by the administration on Saturday at the time of Balwinder's cremation.

Sampla called the incident a major lapse on the part of the state government. He said the government had failed to give due recognition to the family which fought against militants.

The BJP leader faced stiff opposition from farmers in Nagoke village in Khadoor Sahib where he had gone to listen the grievances of an ex-serviceman Kanwalijit Singh, who alleged his father was killed by residents of the village but the police, under political pressure, was not taking action against the guilty.

As soon as Sampla entered the village, workers of the Kisan Mazadoor Sangharash Committee started raising slogans against the Union Government demanding revocation of the three farm legislations.

The protesters, led by Iqbal Singh Warring, gheraoed Sampla for more than 45 minutes. He was let off when he promised to take up the issue with the Union Government. Sampla alleged the protest was allowed to take place by the police. Earlier, the police had requested the BJP leader not to go to the village in view of the farmers' protest.
