Faridkot, November 10

Amid a protest by over 300 nursing students from Jammu and Kashmir, enrolled in different colleges of Punjab, the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) today postponed all nursing examinations by 45 days.

The students had been protesting for the past three days demanding promotion without holding exams in the wake of Covid-19. The exams for undergraduate and postgraduate courses, which were slated to start from November 17, have now been re-scheduled after 45 days, said BFUHS authorities.

Claiming their online study had been affected during the lockdown due to poor Internet connectivity in Jamp;K, the students claimed they were not in a position to take the exam. They demanded general promotion on the lines of other degree colleges.

However, instead of directly promoting them to the next class, the BFUHS decided to postpone the exams allowing students enough time for preparation, the authorities said.

Sources said the BFUHS had fixed the exams schedule after taking over 100 nursing colleges in the state into confidence. Over 30,000 students in these colleges would be affected, said the authorities.

"Conduct of exams is crucial for final-year students as they have to pursue their careers without disruption. Any delay in passing the exam will affect their future prospects," said an official.

The students had been blocking traffic on the Faridkot-Sadiq road and staging a dharna in front of the BFUHS for the past three days. They ended the protest today after the BFUHS announcement.
