Amritsar: A London-based NRI was booked for hurting religious sentiments on Wrdnesday. The accused has been identified as GS Luthra, resident of Central London. Vinayak Kumar, an activist of Satguru Ravidas Sahkti Dal, said in his complaint that they came to know that Luthra, who resides in London had been using derogatory language for Guru Ravidas on social media platforms. The complaint claimed that the accused hurt religious sentiments of the community. TNS

Tax evasion: CBI probe sought

Chandigarh: In an application filed in a PIL before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, non-judicial member of Ropar District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum Capt YS Matta has sought directions for marking a CBI inquiry into alleged "large-scale tax evasion worth thousands of crores". The applicant's counsel, Baltej Singh Sidhu, submitted various complaints had been filed by the petitioner in this regard. tns

'Little Punjab' in US

Chandigarh: Honouring the contribution of South Asian community to the Richmond Hill area of the Queens Borough area, New York City has named a street 'Little Punjab' in its honour. The area which has been nicknamed "Little Punjab" is a hub of businesses run by Punjabis and has two gurdwaras. It has now been named Punjab Avenue. A tweet, gone viral, on Wednesday, featured the residents of the area displaying a board that read "Punjab Av". tns

Rs 802 cr for GPF, insurance

Chandigarh: The Punjab Government on Wednesday released funds to the tune of Rs. 1561.08 crore on various schemes and developmental projects, including Rs 802.35 crore towards payment of General Provident Fund (Final amp; Advances)/Group Insurance Scheme to its employees up to November 24. The Finance Department has also released Rs 94 crore for Hoshiarpur and Rs 75 crore for Tarn Taran out of total Rs 169 crore on account of 14th Finance Commission Grants. TNS
