Moga, December 9

The Moga police on Monday arrested three persons who attacked a police party. SSP Harmanbir Singh revealed that they recovered a .315 bore pistol, 5 live cartridges including an AK-47 assault rifle from them.

He said on December 5 at around 11.30 pm, Sub-Inspector Major Singh along with Home Guard jawan Sukhwinder Singh had gone to attend an emergency call at Jalalabad (east) village. On their way back, they saw 4-5 unidentified persons and one of them was wearing an Army uniform.

On asking how he was entitled to wear the uniform, both got into an altercation, following which the latter attacked the SI with bricks. They were apparently under the influence of liquor/narcotic substance, the SSP claimed.

He said the attackers fled the scene by snatching an AK-47 rifle, but left its magazines. It didn't take long for the police to trace the culprits and recover the weapon, too.

"We are making efforts to arrest 3 more persons who were involved in the crime," the SSP added. He further said that those arrested include Inderjit Singh alias Vicky son of Balwinder Singh, Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi son of Jaspal Singh, Jaspreet Singh alias Jassa son of Kuldeep Singh all residents of Jalalabad (east) village. The SSP said that efforts were on to arrest the others involved in the crime.
